Ipoh Mali Sekeping Kong Heng

An architectural and design gem, Sekeping Kong Heng.

Ipoh Mali Day 3

Wet and wild fun day today. We hit it up at the Lost World of Tambun.

Entrance of The Lost World of Tambun.

Whole group photo upon entering.

Ipoh Mali Day 2

Ipoh trip day two is underway. We all woke up early and set out to our first location, the Memory Lane morning market. The morning market was just around the corner from our hotel. Over there we can see a lot of vintage stuff that can be collectibles to a collector.

One man's junk is another man's treasure.

Seriously, there is a lot of things here.

Fooling around lil bit.

After the morning market, we all hopped in our bus and head out to Old Town, Ipoh. Once there we went to Cendol Padang Ipoh. Over there, we get to choose over a variety of cendol and ABC.

Cendol Padang.

Visit Nam Heong Restaurant to try the original Ipoh White Coffee.

An aromatic cup of savoury Ipoh White Coffee.

Group photo.

Having fun with the wall mural.

Ipoh Mali Intermission

We read from textbooks,
That speak of the past,
Written to teach,
Of what not to repeat.
I tell you of your roots,
Of age old mystery,
Right now I am today,
But tomorrow I am history.

Before I continue with the Ipoh Mali journey, here is a little bit of background info on Ipoh. Brief history of Ipoh made for a presentation we had to give before the trip itself.

Ok, I realized that Mcdonalds doesn't exist in 1930s. So imagined you didn't notice anything.

Ipoh Mali Trip : Pottery

The sculptor's hands are the artist's brush.
A handful of water,
And the slightest touch,
Is all that's needed,
To make the clay rise and dance.

After the heritage house, we all went to a pottery factory somewhere in Tanjung Bidara. Here they craft pottery known as "labu tanah" and "pulau tiga" which were used to store water in the old days. The difference between these two is that "pulau tiga" has 3d floral pattern and texture whereas the "labu tanah" does not. Once there, we got a brief explanation from the owner and we got to design our own "labu" while we're at it.

In the bus, getting ready for the pottery making adventure.

Some of us are just fooling around designing the "labu"

My very own "labu tanah" with animal heads around it.

It was a very interesting experience, designing the "labu tanah". Having been there I thought that it is such a waste that the "labu tanah" and "pulau tiga" are now only used as decoration purposes. It is a useful work of art that people often overlook.

Ipoh Mali Trip

Another semester, another trip. This time the trip is for minor's experiencing culture and the location is Ipoh mali! It has been a long time since I went to Ipoh and I really do miss that place. Even though Ipoh is a small town but it's the people and the heritage that makes it special in its own way.

 The Heritage House Museum, Gopeng

Speaking of heritage, our first stop before reaching Ipoh city itself was a heritage house located at Gopeng which is just outside of Ipoh. The heritage house is basically a shoplot museum filled with antiquities from the olden days.

Few of the many antiques that were showcased in the Heritage House

Coming to the heritage house seriously takes me back. Because some of the antiques were familiar for me. Like the rotary phone, the gramophone and black disc and the old sewing machine and iron. The antiques were showcased in a way that shows visitors the real interior of the houses which they used to live in. It is really like walking into a space where time had stopped and all the pieces there are just frozen in time.

Immortal you stand,
Eternal you'll stay,
A blessed gift of beauty,
Beauty that will never age.
Your hopes and dreams,
To forever inspire,
To share in your immortality,
Frozen here for all time.

Oh and credits to Samaha for the beautiful photos. Thanks for sharing it with me!

Oh Shit...

Saw a girl a few days back and she was carrying this umbrella. Couldn't stop myself from laughing. It was weird cause she maybe thought I was some nutjob laughing behind her.

Took a quick photo. She didn't notice despite me laughing myself.
