Interior Architecture Tech 4 class assignment number 1. Everyone in the class had to choose a green building and identify the characteristics of what makes it green.
So for starters, what does GREEN BUILDING even means?
It is basically design to reduce overall impact of built environment on surrounding. It refers to a structure and using process that is environmentally responsible and resource-efficient throughout a building's life-cycle.
So this time I choose Menara Binjai which is located within Kuala Lumpur's Golden Triangle. It is a 35-storeyed building which comprises of a ground and mezzanine floors, 4 podium car park levels, 4 basement car park level, and 29 levels of office floors. This building complies with the stringent environmental regulations that include minimizing the impact of its construction on the surrounding area, and adopting low carbon footprint strategies. This building boasts energy efficient operation with up to 25% savings on electricity and air-conditioning consumption.
Menara Binjai
Here is a list of key features of Menara Binjai that makes it worthy to be awarded with Dual Green Building Certification by Singapore's BCA Green Gold Mark and also Malaysia's Green Building Index (GBI) Certified (provisional).
-Low-E double glazed windows for optimum heat and sound insulation, and shielding from glare.
-Centralised water-chilled air-conditioning system supported by energy saving green chillers and equipped VAV (Variable Air Volume) boxes provide flexible zonal control for as little as 600 sq feet of space.
-Destination based lift system provides additional security by allowing customised floor selection to reduce waiting and stopping time. The intelligent Kone Ecodisc drives motors while providing comfortable and speedy ride are capable of regenerating electricity during operation through counterweight and braking system. Up to 30% of total electricity used for lift operation can be recovered this way.
-Energy saving light fittings with daylight sensor system which dim peripheral light fixtures during the brightest parts of the day.
-Triple volume garden terraces on every third floor further introduces "a piece of nature" into the workspace.
